Due to specific display time requirements, operation of the Freedom Train often found the crew going to work in the middle of the night, a situation not onlike a circus train's odd roamings. Sunrise in San Timoteo Canyon on January 21, 1976, found 4449 creating a show of her own, the Freedom Train's schedule a good 12 hours away from coinciding with most of the SP passenger schedules the GS4's handled eastbound on Beaumont in the glory years. Complains in the face of the soft morning light were nonexistent.
